I hit in the last 6 months. I picked up the first of these texts that month. Pedro marked it as to-read Nov 12, Yusupov is trying to teach you to evaluate positions and moves the way that a GM does, not the way that a computer does.

I have Pachmans books and think the material is great but I have found that, particularly in the first book, the material is quite basic which has caused me to skip some topicsbut I am enjoying the second and third books.

The best thing you can do is download the excerpt and test yourself, see how you fare. The Fundamentals level is the easiest one, Beyond the Basics is more challenging, and Mastery is quite difficult, even for stronger players.

Build up your Chess 1 – Artur Yusupov

Aside from the excellent instructional value the books provide in general, this is one of the great strengths of the series — it really helps you figure builld what you need to work on! However, allowing less than 5 minutes for an exercise is not advisable in my opinion.

Also it is a lot of money for the nine books. So my guess is that at it would be though but possible. One might ask why it is necessary to have such a high rated Grandmaster write a book for less-advanced players?

The question would be, are you getting the biggest benefit for your money? It is supposed that any of the 3 books of “beyond the basics” are eaiser than any of the “mastery”? It really depends on how hard you’re willing to work, I think.
