The conflict between the two brothers is annoying. This book is okay and it’s an easy read but it doesn’t hold a candle to the John Rain books. Oct 18, Wayne rated it liked it. A pretty good thriller.
The story like a day of the TV series, “24” and like that show, the less you think about some of the plot twists and turns, the tault. Jessica You might like this series, yes, but, at least with this first book, it’s much more overtly political than the Rain books.
Not a drop of imagination. Alex Treven has sacrificed everything to achieve his sole ambition: Being ignorant of the details of coding encryption software, I believed the Macguffin, and I suspect you’d have to be quite an expert before you felt like nitpicking about that. I’ll be looking for more in this series! His new character Alex Trevens, a patent lawyer at bbarry prestigious law firm becomes involved in the murder of his client who wrote a new encryption program.
His Silicon Valley lawyer, Alex, learns that an old friend who had been helping informally with the patent application for the new program, has suddenly died for no apparent reason. Hele sonu, eyvahlar olsun.
It also ended strangely, too easily wrapping up the plot. What Readers Are Saying What do you think? As I said, though, overall the novel was well-written and suspenseful.
So you can imagine his surprise when he receives an email from Alex asking for his help. I am rereading this book — my lien favorite of all Eisler’s novels, though — first.
The problem is the source of the tension is a bit too apparent from the first moments Eisler flashes backs to the days of Alex and Ben growing up. When the creator of the encryption software is killed and Alex narrowly avoids an attempt on his life, he’s forced to reach out to his big brother for help. When his client winds up murdered and Alex’s life is threatened, he calls the one person he thinks can help Then Alex himself comes under attack in his home, all within 24 hours of the developer s death.
Sarah Hosseini, a young Iranian-American lawyer who Alex has long secretly desired But then the inventor of a technology Alex is banking on is murdered — and Alex narrowly escapes an attack in his house. Ben Treven is a Military Liaison Element, an elite undercover soldier paid to “find, fix, and finish” high-value targets in America’s Global War on Terror.
And he signs off as Ben and Sarah heat up. The less said about Sarah, the better. After one of his clients is murdered and he realizes he’s next, he calls his big brother for I’m a big fan of Barry Eisler both his books AND his narrations but this really didn’t do it for me. Quickly, the two, along with Sarah, an Iranian-American associate of Alex s who had been helping on the patent application, are on the run for their lives.
I loved the John Rain books and I miss him! All in all, the book is very enjoyable.
As soon as he returns, he and his brother started fighting gault it pretty much didn’t stop until the end. Gorgeous 1st year lawyer gal is stuck in between, who works with the lawyer brother, but has a background the bad-boy mistrusts. Based on how much I liked John Rain, do you think I might like this series? But the best of the genre, such as, for example, Daniel Silva s series with Gabriel Allon, are tautly written with interesting characters and good to excellent plots.
